Today – August 9 – is the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples. It marks the date of the inaugural session of the United Nations’ Working Group on Indigenous Populations in 1982, and is now a day focused on celebrating the diversity of Indigenous cultures and respecting the human rights of Indigenous peoples around the world.
