A free 24/7 hotline provides mental health support and resources for women before, during, and after pregnancy. The phone support service, 1-833-9-HELP4MOMS (via text or a phone call), connects women with specialists and counselors in perinatal and postpartum mental health at a critical time when depression and anxiety in women often rise.
“This new Maternal Mental Health Hotline will not only advance our priorities of tackling the nation’s mental health crisis but also support our efforts to ensure healthy pregnancies and support new parents,” says Xavier Becerra, Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services.
Launched in May, the federal program aims to reduce postpartum depression rates by providing immediate mental health and crisis support. Those supports include brief interventions from trained counselors who are culturally and trauma-informed, as well as referrals to community-based and telehealth providers. Callers also will receive evidence-based information and referrals to support groups and other community resources.
The hotline is accessible by phone or text at 1-833-9-HELP4MOMS (1-833-943-5746) in English and Spanish. TTY Users can use a preferred relay service or dial 711 and then 1-833-943-5746.
