WKKF grantee More Perfect Union won this year’s Emmy Award for Best News Discussion & Analysis. The documentary tells the story of one county’s political shift and what it signals for working-class communities. The 16-minute documentary was reported and produced by John Russell who, with the support of More Perfect Union, spent months building relationships in the community and conducting interviews with residents about their stories. The Emmy win was featured in Russell’s local paper, the Wheeling News-Register. More Perfect Union is an advocacy journalism nonprofit that tells the stories of working-class Americans to find solutions to the challenges they face.
New Mexico
Over the past years four years, the New Mexico WKKF team has invested in the development and implementation of the Healthy Masculinities Toolkit. This collection of readings, workshops and exercises initiates community conversations that build healthy relationships. Several organizations and entities were trained in facilitating the toolkit and are integrating those practices into their work with diverse communities across the state. One of the participating organizations, Fathers New Mexico, was recently featured for their work implementing healthy masculinities trainings for young fathers who are reintegrating into their families and communities following periods of incarceration.
Health
WKKF grantee the Louisiana Public Health Institute (LPHI) has been honored for the fifth consecutive year by The Times-Picayune and NOLA.com as one of the 2025 Top Workplaces. The annual competition recognizes outstanding organizations committed to a people-first culture and sets high workplace experience standards. Working to advance health, equity and opportunity across Louisiana, LPHI proves its dedication to continual improvement through listening and learning.
Policy
Michigan State University’s Institute for Public Policy and Social Research — a W.K. Kellogg Foundation grantee — hosted Reps. Greg Markkanen, R-Hancock, and Brenda Carter, D-Pontiac, in the 110th District in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Part of its Michigan Legislative Exchange program, the initiative is modeled after the American Congressional Exchange. It fosters bipartisan collaboration and greater understanding of shared challenges and opportunities across communities by encouraging lawmakers to visit one another’s districts.

The Louisiana Food Policy Council (LAFPC) is celebrating a major win for small and mid-sized farmers: the passage of Farmers First — a state resolution recognizing the importance of local producers — and a $3 million public investment to strengthen the local food economy. Backed by a bipartisan coalition of farmers, food advocates and rural leaders, the resolution affirms Louisiana’s commitment to producer-led agriculture and food access. LAFPC and the Louisiana Small Scale Agriculture Coalition, both WKKF grantees, helped lead the charge and will continue working to ensure these resources reach the communities that need them most.
Haiti
WKKF grantee the Haiti Development Institute (HDI) was selected as one of just 12 global finalists to present at the 2025 Caribbean Investment Forum (CIF) in Jamaica last week. HDI presented the newly launched Agrifood Entrepreneurship Center, which seeks to improve food security and strengthen rural economies in Haiti using a series of innovative, replicable techniques developed by Haitian entrepreneurs. The Center was launched by Kolektif Arcadins, a Haitian-led network of 11 partner organizations working to drive lasting change along Haiti’s Arcadins Coast. Winners at CIF will receive funding to “help scale bold, locally rooted solutions with the potential for regional impact.”
