Mask Up to slow the spread

0

In Brief

  • WKKF grantees, the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO) and Big Cities Health Coalition (BCHC),  developed a PSA campaign to encourage people across the country to practice compassion and #MaskUp.
  • ASTHO is a national nonprofit organization representing public health agencies in the United States. It tracks, evaluates, and advises members on the impact and formation of public or private health policy and to provide them with guidance and technical assistance on improving the nation’s health.
  • BCHC is a forum for the leaders of America’s largest metropolitan health departments to exchange strategies and jointly address issues to promote and protect the health and safety of the 62 million people they serve.
  • The W.K. Kellogg Foundation is committed to ensuring all children are thriving, and one of the ways we can do that is by ensuring families and communities have access to resources and information to keep them safe during the pandemic.

Why This Matters

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), there are over 5.4 million cases of the coronavirus in the United States. Masks are one of the most effective ways to slow the spread and yet, as cases rise across the country, mask-wearing is far from universal. When used with other preventive measures, including social distancing, frequent handwashing and cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched surfaces, mask-wearing can help reduce the spread of COVID-19.

the opportunity

We can all do our part to #MaskUp to help protect the health and safety of others. ASTHO and BCHC have created a social media toolkit for the PSA campaign that can be shared.
